While it is hard to be out of our own home with our own Halloween and Fall decorations, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to decorating for the holidays! I am my mother's daughter, after all.... and she included Mallory in every step of getting her home ready for Halloween!
First, Mallory met "Grizelda Schwartz", our resident Witch. She lives in a large wardrobe box most of the year, and comes out for the month of October to spook our neighbors from the front porch. Grizelda was purchased off a farm road in Waterproof, Louisiana in 1985, and has been a fixture for our family's Halloween traditions ever since.
What Mallory noticed right away about Grizelda was that her fingers were "pruny"- that is what Mallory says about her own fingers when she gets out of the tub or swimming pool.
Inside the house, Grandma let Mallory help her with the display on the entryway table.
Grandma has even kept an old McDonald's Happy Meal toy that was Halloween-themed- A Vampire Chicken McNugget, circa 1988! Anyone else remember those?
Putting the finishing touches on the little haystacks...
Next, Mallory filled a candle jar with candy corns and a ghost candle... she filled her tummy, too!
(Whenever Mallory is in control of goodies, JD is never too far away....)
Grandma saves every Halloween catalog that comes in the mail so Mallory can look at all the costumes. Even though we already have her costume, she studies every picture so carefully! It was hard to capture this peaceful moment on film as she scanned up and down every page so thoughtfully. It made me wonder what was going on in that sweet little head.....
