I have been playing "catch up" in many aspects of my life these days. In no way is it more apparent then when you walk into my room.
Mind you, my "room" here is my bedroom, computer room, craft area, file cabinet, closet and Toddler-entertainment area all in one. NOT that I am complaining.... I am SO BEYOND grateful for all that my parents have done to make me and Mallory comfortable while here for the year. At first, I did a pretty good job of keeping up with everything, but as the following pictures will show, I have definitely "settled in."
Some of my bad habits include:
At the end of a workout, I lay my clothes on the bathroom tile floor (since they are wet with sweat) and forget to pick them up for a couple of days before adding them to the over-flowing laundry basket.
I get things out to do a craft at the small table, get interrupted, then when Mallory is up, I shuffle things to my dresser to keep her out of it, then back again, and the shuffling goes one and on and on.... I never seem to get it all cleaned up!
I am constantly working on the computer throughout the day. I am a visual person, and leave things out as a visual reminder. Those of you who are ORGANIZERS would call this a disaster! I call this my "to-do pile.
When Charles calls, and I want Mallory to sit and Skype with him, I shove all of my "to-do" pile out of her reach, and pile it high to the sky on the left side of the table- keyboard and mouse included sometimes! WOW! This IS a disaster!!!!
Unfortunately, I took all of these pictures AFTER I had already been cleaning for quite some time. Usually, you cannot even see the carpet on the right side of the bed through all of the clothing and shoes I leave laying around. I blame my 3 years managing an Old Navy for why I have such a disdain for putting clothes away. And you can SEE how long I go without doing laundry- usually only once every 12 or so days. But this is from me AND Mallory.
My sweet, sweet husband sent me flowers for Valentine's Day. I was so excited to put them right next to my bed where I could enjoy them every day..... but they are in no place of honor! My nightstand is jam packed with magazines, JD's collar, change, Mallory's treasures, my sunglasses, empty snack bags, unopened mail, drinks.... everything I try and get to before I go to bed and/or as soon as I get up in the morning...
So..... THE FLOWERS are the inspiration for me getting my act together in here! Those precious blooms DESERVE a place of honor... and my parents deserve for me to keep my room picked up. I feel like I am in high school, disrespecting their house all over again!
Some of you may be shocked to see this- people seem to always think I have it SO together.... the truth is ugly, huh? When Charles and I move into our new house in England, I want to commit to never having a "Monica closet" (Yes, that is a "Friends" reference). But in all of our other houses, I usually have a Monica ROOM that I just keep closed off from the rest of the house.... I am living in one now, and want it to CHANGE! I will post pictures of the AFTER soon!
